About the Grant
The Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship is for trainee pathologists who have undertaken a PhD at some point before the start of their clinical pathology training. The aim of the Fellowship is to encourage trainees back into research to reacquire and update their research skills. The funding covers salary and consumables for up to 3 years.

Who is eligible?

Trainee members of the Society, based in Great Britain or Ireland, in a recognised Specialist Trainee 1-6 post in Histopathology, Veterinary or Oral Pathology. Applicants must have completed a PhD prior to start of pathology training. Applicants should have been a member of the Society for at least 12 months.


Term & Conditions
The Pathological Society of Great Britain & Ireland (JSPS) and Medical Research Council have established a new Fellowship which aims to support trainee pathologists who have completed a PhD at an early stage of their career (e.g., prior to, or during, undergraduate medical degree or before the start of pathology clinical training). The Fellowship aims to encourage trainees back into research to reacquire and update research skills. The funding covers salary and consumables for up to 3 years.


Applications will be judged by a peer review process which will focus on the personal qualities and motivation of the candidate, the relevance and quality of the research training programme, the originality and quality of the proposed research project, the strength of the supervision arrangements, the research infrastructure, as well as the benefits to the individual, to the Pathological Society and the Medical Research Council. The process will be overseen by the Medical Research Council and involve members of the Pathological Society, and invited reviews from selected external reviewers.


Applications are made through the MRC (Clinical research training fellowship – UKRI)
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed and advised of a decision as soon as practicable after interview process.
