BSG Oesophageal Section - Registry

The Oesophageal Section of the BSG has set up a registry for eosinophilic oesophagitis. This is an increasingly recognised cause of dysphagia and food bolus obstruction but we suspect there is still significant under-diagnosis. Endoscopic changes have been described but the diagnosis is a histological one, based on eosinophilic infiltration of the oesophageal mucosa, > 15 or 20 per high power field, more than is normally found in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

The aims of the registry, which will run for 3 years, are: firstly to increase awareness of the condition, secondly to collect epidemiological data, and thirdly to facilitate research into the condition. Only a small amount of data is asked for, and it should take no more than 4 -5 minutes to register one case, depending on the internet connection. We hope you will support this project and encourage your junior staff to register all your prevalent and incident cases.

Many thanks for your help. Please note one does not have to log in to enter a patient.
